Celtic Colours Festival – An Experience Most People won’t ever Forget

Celtic Colours International Festival, Cape Breton Island

Celtic Colours International Festival, Cape Breton Island

Nine incredible days of Celtic Music – 47 concerts, 200 plus community events & educational programs is what this year’s Celtic Colours International Festival on Cape Breton Island, October 10-18 is all about.  The first weekend you couldn’t get a room anywhere on the island. It has been that busy all week which is great for our tourism industry.

The festival started with an amazing concert in Port Hawkesbury featuring Carlos Nunez and ends with a Tribute to Rita MacNeil at Sydney Marine Terminal featuring Men of the Deeps, Rita MacNeil, Gordie Sampson, JP Cormier, Raylene Rankin, Scott MacMillian, and Ryan MacNeil.

The Celtic Colours experience is all about visitors meeting locals, participating in community events and educational programs. It is about 47 amazing concerts from Cape Breton performers and away, the festival club after hours, and seeing the amazing fall colours of our natural landscape and the Cabot Trail. It is a festival where people can experience so much of Cape Breton Culture and Celtic Music. This is why so many people come back year after year and take their vacation here.

Canadian Tourism Commission & 2008 Nova Scotia Tourism Product Development Day has focused the tourism industry to experiences people now want in their vacations. CTC’s explorer quotient system provides a way for people to match their travel personality with Canadian Experiences. Roger Brooks, President and CEO, Destination Development Inc,  in his presentation – “The New Age of Tourism” to the tourism industry of the Cabot Trail on October 2nd in Cheticamp, calls it the experience economy.

Celtic Colours is our role model for experiences and something we can all aspire to be.  Congratulations to all the volunteers, committees, Cape Breton communities and Celtic Colours staff for another amazing festival.
