Hike the Highlands Festival – A Memorable Experience

Sept. 12-21, 2008

Sept. 12-21, 2008

I was off for a bit enjoying hiking in the Highlands of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. I was busy meeting & greeting hikers at the 5th Annual Hike the Highlands Festival. I’m part of a great team that welcomes hikers from North America and yes a  couple from Scotland, the other Highlands,  for ten days of guided hikes and evening events – such as a bonfire on Moonlight Night, evening presentations, evening hikes at White Point, Middle Head and Freshwater Lake, opening and closing ceremonies and celtic entertainment at Thirsty Hikers Pub.

The hikes take place in the communities of Ingonish, Sugarloaf, Bay St. Lawrence, Cheticamp, North Shore, North River and Big Baddeck and in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park and four Nova Scotia Provincial Parks. The weather cooperated with no rain and just the right temperature for fall hiking.

Here is what one hiker said of her experience – “The hikes, the scenery, the wildlife, the knowledgeable guides and sweeps……the weather – all perfect!!    It was magical!! ” – Juanita Sauve, Ottawa, Ontario.  This is what great vacations are all about …..memorable experiences.
