The big event is only nine days away…….the 4th Annual Victoria County Tourism Conference takes place November 6th at Great Hall of Clans, Gaelic College, St. Ann’s. This year’s theme is Tourism 2.0 – Understanding the New Web”.

Why should Tourism Operators spent time learning more about Technology ?  1) Nova Scotia in its 2007 Tourism plan stated 70% of potential visitors to Nova Scotia look for information on-line.  55% of potentional visitors to Nova Scotia book on-line.  2)  Yahoo Travel in a recent survey indicated 61% of people go on-line for travel recommendations and 3) The web is the most measurable medium in marketing – Alicia Whalen, A Couple of Chicks E-Marketing.

The impact of social & new media and Web 2.0 applications are becoming very real for the tourism industry. Word of mouth is being replaced by social media – blogs, travel reviews & recommendations, facebook, and flickr ( photo slideshows). Word of Mouth advertising is more important to the tourism industry than any other industry. Web 2.0 allows and encourages user generated content. Potentional Visitors are using recommendations & information from other travellers to make decisions.

Starting the conference off on the right foot is keynote speaker, Malcolm Fraser, President and CEO of  ISL.  Mr. Fraser a veteran of  12 years of  internet industry experience focusing  on creative technology solutions that leverage the Internet to solve complex business and marketing problems.  Malcolm is responsible for driving Internet initiatives that generate significant business results for clients such as NS Tourism – novascotia.com , Steele Auto Group, NS Heritage, Jacques Whitford,  and Nova Scotia Business Inc.The conference will feature nine presentations including SEO & Web Analytics,  Successful Web Sites,  Travel Blogs,  On-line Bookings,   On-Line Advertising, Adwords & Pay per Clicks,  Google Maps,  Hike the Highlands Festival & Web 2.0,  and Lobsterpalooza Festival.

Delegates can register on-line until Monday, November 5th.  After November 5th, they must register at conference registration desk on Tuesday, November 6th.
