Heart of the Highlands Triathlon, Ingonish

Arlene MorrisonEighty competitors and ideal weather condtions provided the background for the 3rd Annual Cabot Trail Heart of the Highlands Triathlon in Ingonish Beach, Sunday, June 24.  There were three categories – Olympic (12 competitors – 1500 meter swim, 42 km bike and 10km run ), Sprint (27 competitors – 750 meter swim, 23 km bike, & 5 km run) and team competitions (15 teams – 750 meter swim, 23 km bike, and 5 km run) .  The water temperature was 16 degrees in Freshwater lake with a little breeze. It was an interesting event to watch as well to talk to competitors. Eleven residents of Victoria County competed in the competitions. Events like this are great economic generators for the tourism & services industries, promote Active Living lifestyles, and attract people to stay overnight in the area. Congratulations to the organizers on a well run event.
