Victoria County , Cape Breton Island, certainly had its influx of visitors this past week with the Youth in Aviation Week, part of the year long Silver Dart Centennial Celebrations in the Village of Baddeck - Birthplace of Canadian Aviation. Amazing weather, great crowds and events made this a week to remember. One of the highlights of the week included the Silver Dart Centennial Air Show featuring CH -149 Cormorant Helicopter, Aurora, Sea King helicopter and CF-18 Hornet. The CF-18 Hornet is amazing plane….see some pics below. The Snowbirds are expected to visit in August.
Other highlights include Cape Breton University Starlab, a Star Party each night at 10:00 pm, an opportunity to sit in the CF-18 Cockpit and try the Flight Simulator, meet Ken Blackburn – the Guiness World record holder for longest flight of paper airplanes 27.5 seconds and try your luck. The week also featured the Silver Dart Centennial Street party featuring Paper Lions and Tom Fun Orchestra, Silver Dart Centennial Fireworks, Silver Dart Centennial Concert featuring Juno and CCMA winner, George Canyon and Juno nominee Tara Oram Ball and the Silver Dart Ball.
A big thank-you goes out to the Silver Dart Centennial Team – board of directors, Eleanor Anderson & staff , volunteers, Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, the community organizations in Baddeck for an amazing week of events. Well done !!!!
